Course Description

The Importance of Case Studies

Case studies are invaluable for Biblical Counseling students as they learn how to ask questions and collect data about counselees and the problems they are facing. Case studies teach the student the skill of careful listening with the aim of crafting questions that will expose the heart of the counselee. Statements harden the heart, but questions prick the conscience. Teaching the student how to ask good questions is one of the most important goals of our case studies. These Case Study Videos also model for the student the skill of beginning with conversation about what brought the counselee in, discerning the heart issues behind the problem, and then applying Scriptural truth.

Our Case Studies are presented by Certified Biblical Counselors from Reigning Grace Counseling Center. These case studies fulfill the 10 hours of observation required for certification by the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC) and the International Association of Biblical Counselors (IABC). Logistics: Julie was clear and volume was great. Some of the conversation from the counselee was lost because volume was low and not clear and at times held her head down. I do know that there may be reason for this behavior, however, for purposes of the case study can you ensure that the counselee speak directly into the mic. I have the volume as high as possible on the video and my computer and many times had to replay to understand what was being said. Context: Great to observe the process and understand how you navigate through the counseling time. Question: when homework is not completed how do you decide to end or continue? Love that you talk about the resources you used. Also it would be helpful to share your thoughts.
